Day 31-1
|
This is the year.
I'd like to look back and say 2007 was the year I had hoped it would be but let's be honest. It was the year that sucked with the sound of a black hole surrounding a thousand Hoovers (or Dysons, if that is your will).
I'm not even going to bother a recap this year, but that's only because 2007 began what feels like so many years ago, that I can't even remember the first third of it. No joke- it's like that life belonged to someone else. I don't remember.
The last 365 (heh, I almost wrote 376-seems longer than it was, huh?) has held the following lovely tidbits; people dying, moving twice, car accidents- stuff that's worth recalling so we don't repeat that yet Again, and so let's move on.
Really. Just pretend here for a second that moving on from all the Crap is possible. Because it has to be possible even if it is all in my head right?
This is the year. This is a 1 year (numerology shout-out!). This is the year I take some names and make some changes (some big ones). There's no doubt about that. Changes are necessary and inevitable, but especially these and already December has given me a small taste of what is surely to come. If December is any indication, 08 is going to be a doozy.
Go with me on this one.
So hey, 08! I spent the last 2.5 minutes of 07 trying to open a bottle of champagne, and I spent the last 30 seconds of it enjoying a taste of the bubbly (just a taste). It was a sublime way to end what was in the end not such a fabulous year. Here's to something better. I don't know exactly what that something is, but at least now I have more of an idea. |

And another thing: never ever put other people's opinions of you above your own. Ever.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
You take some good you take some bad you take them both and there you have the facts of life...
Yeah. I totally just quoted a theme song. So?Labels: answers, end of the year, meme, questions |

Day 26
|
Back to work today- and it felt like I haven't been there in forever. Which, really I guess it has been quite awhile. That left me scrambling to organize a lot of different things, all of which are manageable, but still stressful in their own right.
Yesterday was a good day. It felt like Christmas this year as opposed to last when it didn't. I saw my family and we hung out, and Santa was very very good to me this year (better than normal I'd say). I also watched my grandmother very legitimately kick my ass in Scrabble. I got the lowest score, no joke.
Tomorrow and Friday I work some, but I get evenings off so I'll have more time than normal to do things. Like laundry. Speaking of which, I definitely dyed my sheets a darker purple totally by accident. Who knew purple would run? I sure didn't. I could have guessed, though. Oh well. No harm done since it's all the same to me.
I bought my red lipstick today. I haven't tested it out yet though.
I also went on Amazon and ordered two movies: "Hairspray", which has to be my favorite movie-musical EVER, and "Once", which is a movie that I can't even describe. I watched it in the theatre and it made me just sit back and sigh. A good sigh.
I can't wait to get them and watch them on my new 19" LCD flat-screen TV.Labels: christmas, movies, work |

Day 24
|
Just random stuff, and it really doesn't feel like it can possibly be Christmas already does it? Not to me.
This morning I took advantage of my area's Olympic-sized swimming pool, and it was nice. They heat it to a balmy 80-something, so it is more like getting into lukewarm bath water. Who says you can't go swimming in the middle of December? I think i'll shut up now before someone from the Midwest/East Coast starts leaving me nasty comments.
Heh.
Moxie's Festivus party was awesome, and the regifting went well (despite the fact that people left their shit there- but I totally understand leaving the bass-head-drink cozy thing. Yeah.). I got a purple teapot which was perfect, even if I did discover yesterday that there is a small crack in the bottom that makes it leak slightly. Other things I learned: Being Winnie the Pooh at Disneyland isn't so enviable (but I'd pay to see him high-five Darth Vader. Awesome.), no that guest wasn't kidding about the Spam and Vienna Sausage tower, Mossimo is still the most Pimptastic cat ever and he WILL NOT hesitate to drink your margarita if you leave it on the floor, and now I am inspired by a certain redhead to wear my very own shade of bright red lipstick just to see what results I get. Thank you hon.
Today (in a minute or so) I have to call in for jury duty. On Christmas Eve, I shit you not.
To that I have to say:

Merry Freakin' Christmas, Kids. Merry, Merry, Merry. |

Day 20
|
Movies Everywhere...
I'm thinking of seeing a movie this afternoon, and while I had the opportunity to see "Sweeney Todd" last night (I will be seeing it at some point) I was far too tired and traffic was a mess. I couldn't make it. So, I'm sitting here considering "Juno" and I'm also considering seeing "The Golden Compass" just because I like the book so far. There's also "Enchanted", which stars McDreamy among others. I like watching McDreamy. If you don't know who McDreamy is, pick up an issue of People (Like say, this week's issue) and there you go.
Meanwhile Golden Globe Noms:
1. BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
1. AMERICAN GANGSTER Imagine Entertainment/Scott Free Productions; Universal Pictures 2. ATONEMENT Working Title Films Limited; Focus Features 3. EASTERN PROMISES Kudos Pictures/Serendipity Point Films; Focus Features 4. THE GREAT DEBATERS Harpo Films; The Weinstein Company/MGM 5. MICHAEL CLAYTON Samuels Media and Castle Rock Entertainment a Mirage Enterprises/Section 8 Production; Warner Bros. Pictures 6. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN A Scott Rudin/Mike Zoss Production; Miramax Films/Paramount Vantage 7. THERE WILL BE BLOOD A Joanne Sellar/Ghoulardi Film Company Production; Paramount Vantage/Miramax Films
I have seen numbers 1 and 2 but not 3-7. Go figure. Hell, number 7 isn't even out yet and the people I know who saw #3 didn't even like it. And #4? WTF?
1 was good, 2 was great and very moving. I'd recommend them both for very different reasons as they are two vastly different films.
The Academy Awards are 2/24 this year, so we'll see. I think SAG got it right this week when they nominated "Into the Wild" for bunches of awards. It was one of my favorites this year by far and the book was a good read- I finished it in 2 days.Labels: awards, movies |

Day 18
|
The old women outlasted me. Really. Last night my mom coaxed me over to her house with the lure of free food and the price was Bunko.
I caught on quickly, the game doesn't really require much skill. Some would argue that it requires no skill, and moreover there's gambling involved and the seemingly arbitrary divvying up of cash at the end. Something about scores. I don't know. I'm glad the Coke I had was able to keep me going for a little while.
It's raining today, so what else is new? It will be for awhile they say.
I got through the boxes (most of them) and so stuff is starting to take shape. It's nice to be in a place that is more my own.
And suddenly this has become the most incredibly boring holidailies entry ever. Sort of.

Day 17

Moving and Shout-outs.
Today's moving was tiring. But, I officially don't live there anymore. Yay! No more crazy roommate. Thank GOD. And that's all I'm going to say about that. You LJ people know exactly what I'm talking about, though.
So now all my stuff's in boxes still (well, some of it, I think I have 7 or 8 more to go, but at least the internet is up, the cable is up, and my stuff is safe and sound.
Yesterday I went to an artisan fair featuring local indie artists, and I ran across this guy who makes awesome bags. I'm such a bagWhore that I had to get the purple one. Oh yes. Then he mentioned he thought he saw me somewhere once before. I asked if he saw me at Art School, he said no. I thought about it for awhile, wandered around, and then remembered that I actually did run into him about 4 years ago when he was a Starbucks barista at the one near where I used to live. (No not that one, the other one. yeah. that one). He wrote his brand and website on a napkin for me. He was shocked I remembered that, and I'm happy he's making it as a designer. You can find his stuff here. Please support him!Labels: coincidences, moving, shout outs |

Day 16

Today's Prompt: "Have you ever had a winter without snow?"
And the shortest entry ever would be:
Why yes, every winter since I was born.
Neener neener neener.
No but really. Since obviously that prompt was written by someone plagued by the 8 inches or more of snow (the same my dear grandmother is dealing with right now), I'm going to sort of disregard.
Yesterday was productive, today was more of a leisurely pace, but now I have random stuff to pack before bedtime. Oh and the way my side and legs are feeling? There isn't enough ibuprofen in the WORLD.
Also? The Getty is 10! I went the week after it opened in 1997 and I still remember it to this day. Unbelievable. |

Day 14
|
Hectic times ahead- moving is stressful, but tomorrow there will be some help for that, and Monday is when all the stuff goes. Tonight I took some time out to see "Atonement", just one of the many movies I'd like to see in the near future. I'm hoping to see more during my week off. It was a great movie, and even though I didn't want to like it I liked it. I know that makes no sense, but just trust me. I didn't want to like it- and my instinct is telling me that it was all wrong but at the same time it was actually pretty right. It was very powerful and it has kept me thinking all night. Now, i'm tired. |

Day 12
|
More randomness. I'm Pfffft.
Dove chocolate does not count as dinner. I'm eating it as dinner anyways.
Tomorrow is the day I drop Bird off. This will be sad. Happy, because he'll be taken care of, but sad.
My stomach does not feel good.
The movers are coming Monday. Yay!
My new place has so much more space, it is awesome. It also has no furniture. Well... it has a folding table and a sofa. And a chair. I am not kidding.
The codeine worked last night. Let's see if it can go two for two.
Last time I moved none of my friends helped. Now everyone wants to help. Huh. Does this mean I owe them dinner?
I had one student tonight. Yes, one. Apparently the 12th is a religious holiday and all my pious students were at church. Whatever.
OK. Tired. bed now. |

Day 11
|
Living in LA LA Land.
Well, I guess I was within 5 miles of CB on Saturday night and did I know this? No. Worse, tickets to the AFI event at the Egyptian were on SALE and I had no idea. So I missed my celeb boyfriend. Sadness.
Cable is being installed at the new place on Monday, we are moving some stuff over on Saturday. I still don't know when the movers are coming- they haven't called me back yet. I'm pretty excited about moving. You know, when I'm not busy stressing.
Sadly bird can't come with me to my new place. I am boarding him on Thursday at an animal hospital and we'll see after that. I may have to give him to the Lily Sanctuary or something. I don't like the thought of it. I have no other choice.
Have I done Christmas shopping? No.
One of my Flickr photos was shortlisted for the Schmap Las Vegas guide. They will tell me if it is selected. That's pretty cool.
I am still coughing.
I'd love to take some codeine now. I think that sounds like a plan. LA LA Land here I come...Labels: animal, bird, christian bale, sadness, stress |

Day 10
|
So the weekend, it was nice. I did some serious bargain shopping (well, what I call a bargain at a store i'd normally consider higher-end), went to L.A., hung out with a bunch (read over 30) non-straight guys and some straight ones (and some girls too) at my brother's annual Christmas party where I learned my dad has always believed maraschino cherries would kill him because long ago my grandma told him so.
Well, you learn something new every day.
Sunday evening I hung out with the Resident Musician at her pad with her two wonderful (shedding but wonderful) doggies and watched a Public Television documentary about Jim Jones.
How's that for variety?
And between all the partying and shopping and documentary watching I had time to pack up several boxes. I am wading through them whenever I try to leave my room.
This will pass. |

1. It is raining. 2. I am short two grandparents 3. I am moving again 4. I am working somewhere somewhat new 5. My iPod plays video 6. I have jury duty 7. My old friend has a baby 8. Day 4
|
| I interrupt the prompt writing and the meme posting for a small sick break. My stomach and I, we have been huddled over a toilet, staring at the bottom of the bowl for most of this morning. The worst feeling isn't while you're throwing up, it's right before. Especially if Right Before takes four hours. So now there's nothing left at last, just the dry pieces of Cap'n Crunch i've been nibbling. And water. Water is good. Hopefully the chills will go away soon. Day 3

Before getting to the prompt, I'd like to mention I'm really ill right now. Damn.
"Snow".
Huh. Ok. Haven't seen it lately unless you count the TV news or the god-awful Christmas specials they rerun on TV every year (exception being "Christmas Vacation"-I will always have a soft spot).
Seriously, snow is something other people get, other people deal with, other people moan about. We don't. Not here in Southern California. We can choose to see snow if we happen to go up to the mountains (like Big Bear for instance) and see some. But again, it's more of an optional novelty. Snow shovel not included. I've stayed there for a couple of days and have some tales of ice and its effects, but really snow and I are only vaguely acquainted. I've never been to the midwest when it snows. I've never been to the east when it snows. I'm just not a snow kinda girl. Really? Who am I kidding, writing an entry about snow? It's going to be 82 degrees tomorrow.
Now I have a gallon of Nyquil to go consume.Labels: CA, Day 3, snow |

LOL (about the snow, not you being sick ... I'm sorry you're sick and hope you feel better soon ... left recommendations on your Day 4 post already) but your post here sums up MY reaction to the "snow" prompt. I live a block & a half from the ocean in Southern California and the last time I saw anything resembling snow was more than a decade ago when we got enough hail in the neighborhood to make locals THINK we had snow :) Hugs and blessings,

Day 2
|
Today's Prompt: "Maintaining friendships ... and do holiday cards help?"
Hmm. This is a wide topic. Wide-open for discussion, interpretation, and the like. I have had many friendships over the years, and I've gotten rid of many friendships over the years. "Gotten rid of" might sound harsh, but really these people either went away due to life circumstances,or I wanted them out for various behavioral reasons, or both. The most important factor to maintaining a friendship to me is whether you both have the ability to grow and change over time, and still like, have respect for and accept who that person is rather than long for who they used to be. That's just my take on it.
As for whether holiday cards help? Hell no. I rarely ever bother with holiday cards. If I want to keep in touch, I'll keep in touch. Period. I don't know why people bother, personally. It depends on your circumstances and everything, I just don't think that beyond informational purposes or looks, it does much good to send a holiday card. It doesn't mean you have a relationship with anyone, it just means that you sent them a pretty piece of card stock. And don't even get me started on form letters. Unless you are like my mom's friend and have a huge extended/blended family full of children, grandchildren, step children and the like and you actually need a twenty-page dossier to describe your last year, there's no excuse. |
